About the event
Join us in exploring the headwater stream habitat upstream of the Mayo Mill Dam, interact with some endangered fish, and talk with a state biologist. We will meet with the Maine Department of Marine Resources, Pete Ruksznis, and help with the stocking of Atlantic salmon into the stream as a part of the recovery efforts. Pete is from Guilford and has been a biologist with the state for many years working on Atlantic Salmon in the Piscataquis River.
In total, this would be a 2-hour field trip. We could meet at the parking area behind the Mill in Dover Foxcroft and caravan/carpool together at 10:30 am. It’s about a 30-minute drive. Spend about a half hour or so with Pete, then drive back to Town. The site is roadside and easy to access so no technical hiking skills necessary. If you would like to get into the river, you will need to wear appropriate footwear but staying along the river bank will be okay too. Also, be mindful of ticks.
The event is capped at 10 people, in respect of the residents that live around the location. RSVP to hold your spot.
